A great idea before you buy a grill is to actually look through the owners manual of the grill as it will help you determine how easy the grill is to operate and what the grill can handle. Comparing grills online is one of the best ways to figure out whether a grill performs as specified. Here are some features to look for when out shopping for a grill:

Choose a grill that is built from a heavier metal that is rust resistant. This can be a stainless steel grill or a metal that has been powder-coated to withstand the elements.

Choose a grill that has over 400 square inches of cooking space.

Make sure the grill has a tight fitting lid to minimize heat escaping that is also easy to lift and close.

A grills BTU is how much grilling power the burner has. Buying the highest BTU’s is not always necessary. Check out the efficiency rating of the grill and stick within the 20,000-50,000 range when selecting your grill.

Choosing a grill with side burners such as the Weber Genesis E-320 allows you to do all your cooking outside which is especially convenient during the summer months.

Having a rotisserie allows you to slowly cook your meat allowing for maximum flavor. While having a rotisserie is a great convenience, you can actually get most of the effects of using a rotisserie by cooking your meat over indirect heat.

If you like the taste of smoked meat then do invest in a built-in smoke box or drawer on your barbecue. Is finding the drip pan on the grill easy? Can you access easily? Being able to empty and clean the drip pan means no smelly messes over spilling on your deck.

Choose a company that has great service, a good manufacturer’s warranty and is easy to contact whether it is by toll-free phone or by email.

Before you buy a grill, make sure that it has these features to ensure that you get a grill that stands up to years of grilling. Plan to spent at a minimum of $400 on a quality grill that will last you many grilling seasons.

While I previously mentioned that there are some must-have barbecue grill accessories, there are also some nice to have tools that are great to have on hand when you light up the grill this summer. Check out these grilling accessories:

Racks – There are different styles of racks that you can use depending on what type of meat you are cooking. If you love to cook ribs, then choosing a rib rack allows you to cook multiple racks of ribs all at once. The V-style roasting rack is great if you want to cook larger cuts of meat (a plus size with this rack is that you can actually flip it over to use as a rib rack as well). There are also specialty racks that allow you to use beer can recipes all while giving more stability to the cooking chicken.

Baskets – If you like to cook fish on the grill or cook veggies, then having some baskets on hand makes flipping them a breeze. This allows for evenly cooked food without the hassle of flipping individual items.

Grill Light – If you are a fan of grilling at any time of the day or night – having an outdoor grill light will allow you to see what you are doing.

Grill Wok – Just like an indoor wok, having a grill wok allows you to cook your food outdoors while enjoying your favorite Asian flavors.

Wood Planks – If you like the flavor of smoked meat and don’t want the hassle of cleaning up wood chips in your grill, then pick up some wood planks in different flavors such as maple, cedar and even apple. You can buy packaged planks at any specialty shops as well as online. Just ensure that you are not using any wood that has been pretreated with a chemical as it can be harmful to your health.

While these grilling accessories are more of a want-to have item for your grilling wish list, they do help cut down on grilling time will also improving the convenience of grilling. Don’t forget to add them to you list today!

When it comes to firing up the grill, while you can get started grilling with only a grill, there are a few must-have barbecue tools and accessories to have on hand for safety and convenience. Here is a list of what I consider is a must-have grilling accessory perfect for your friends and family:

Make sure you take time to assemble everything you will need before you start grilling such as trays or tongs as this will save time and reduce stress when grilling.

Barbecue Mitts – a good pair of mitts that go past your wrist and are insulated are a must when barbecuing.

Tongs – having multiple pairs of tongs that are spring-loaded are great to have on hand to prevent cross-contamination of raw and cooked foods.

Spatulas – having a long-handled metal spatula is essential when it comes to flipping larger cuts of meat or packets of veggies.

Grill Brush – a high quality grill brush is a must to have on hand to help you keep your grill clean. If you have a stainless steel or porcelain coated grill, then choose a brass-bristled brush for scraping down the grates. If you have a cast-iron grill then you will need to choose a stainless steel bristled brush.

Thermometers – Some grills come with a thermometer but it is always best to use an additional oven thermometer in your grill which will give you a more precise temperature of the inside of your grill. As well, having probe thermometers is great for meat that you cook for longer periods.

Timers – having timers on hand help you remember when to flip and stir when grilling – especially helpful when you are entertaining company.

Basting Brushes – Having a couple of basting brushes in different sizes are great to have on hand. A long handled basting brush is perfect for basting meat and veggies on the grill or you can try out the new silicone brushes which are easier to clean.

Disposable pans – a grillers best friend, disposable pans are great as drip or water pans and great for moving food in and out of the house.

Skewers – There are two varieties of skewers available – bamboo and metal. Bamboo is a great option if you are on a budget as they are only a few buck for a large supply. When using bamboo, be sure to soak the wooden sticks at least 20 minutes before you intend to add meat or veggies as it will ensure that the wood doesn’t burn when placed on the grill. Metal skewers are more expensive initially however they are reusable and will last many years.

Extra Propane Tank – We’ve all be there…barbecuing the perfect steak only to find out that you have run out of fuel. Having an extra tank available saves on the time and trouble of running out to get your tank refuelled.

Half Sheet Pan or Cookie Sheet – These trays are perfect for carrying and transporting food to and from the grill.

Wood Chips or Chunks – If you are into smoking your meat, these are a must have. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different wood types as they can give different flavors to your meat. You now can actually buy wood planks that you actually place the meat on to give that smoked flavor.

Spray Bottle – having a spray bottle filled with water is perfect for controlling flare-ups from dripping fat.

If you don’t have some of these items already in your home, add them to your shopping list for the next time you are at your favorite box store or kitchen gadget store. Maybe you have a favorite grilling accessory that I don’t have listed that you want to share…

I seldom grill a meal for myself, but when friends come over for lunch or dinner during weekends, out comes the grill. Each person has his or her own way of preparing a beef steak before it hits the grill. I won’t claim that my method is the best for there is no actual way for you to try it out. The best that I can do is just to simply share with you how I go about doing it.

Refrigerate Steak

This not only protects the beef from spoilage, but keep in mind that grill time is dependent on the transfer of beef from the refrigerator directly to the grill. When refrigerating your steak you want to ensure that it is covered so that the juices don’t dry out.

Temperature is key

Preheat your grill on high for at least 10 minutes with the lid closed. Reduce the grill’s temperature to medium heat for steak. If you are looking to have your steak well-done (cooked all the way through with no pink) you can grill the steak for about 10 minutes. Should you prefer your steak rare, then using medium you cook your steak for 8 minutes. Using a very high temperature can just end up charring your beef steak.

Flare-ups Are Bad

Flare-ups in grilling happen when fat dripping from the beef catches fire. Flare-ups if left unchecked can lead to charring. To avoid flare-ups, remove extra fat from the meat before placing it on the grill.

Proper Turning

For perfect grilling ‘squares’ you turn your steak four times. For turning steaks, use long-handled tongs. For burgers, spatulas. Refrain from using a fork to pierce your steak to check if it is cooked as it can affect the flavor.

Thermometer

If you want to check whether your steak is cooked to your specifications, use an untreated thermometer. Be advised though that it is not heat resistant. So after inserting the thermometer horizontally in the center on the steak, take it out immediately.

Correct Internal Temperature

Steaks should be cooked at least around 145 F for those who prefer them medium rare. Knowing the right temperature can help you control the doneness of the steak.

Visual Confirmation

To see is to believe, right? So if you really want to see for yourself whether your steak is done, make a small incision around the center part of the steak with a knife. Piercing the steak can affect the flavour so make sure you don’t keep checking.

Marinating For Tenderness

Before grilling, I typically marinate my beef steak from 15 minutes to a little over 2 hours. This for me is enough time for all the flavors to seep in. For less tender steaks, my advice is to marinate it overnight with a marinating sauce or a spice rub. When marinating, do not forget to always refrigerate your marinated beef.

Cleanliness

Avoid returning your newly cooked steak to the same plate you used to marinate it in unless it is already washed.

Thinking of going on a diet but you just can’t keep your mind off food? Well there are lots of ways for you to still enjoy a delicious meal minus the guilt. All you need is to just tweak the recipe a bit and get into the habit of eating grilled food.

There are various types of cooking grills out there, from the good ol’ charcoal grills that are practically quintessential in every backyard to the more modern “smokeless grills” that are perfect for smaller homes. If you enjoy entertaining at home and you have a spacious backyard, it is better that you get a charcoal grill instead. This way, there will be more space for bigger cuts of meat, fish, or chicken that can be enjoyed by every member of the family. Plus, grilling through charcoal is much faster although it can be tricky at times.

When it comes to grilling your food, whether meats or vegetables, you should be knowledgeable about the proper way of grilling for each kind of food item. Beef and pork obviously take a longer time to grill as opposed to vegetables. Seafood especially squid, should never stay long on the grill as this is the type of meat that will get hard and end up with a rubbery texture when cooked for too long.

Aside from learning grilling techniques, you should also start looking up yummy recipes for marinades that you can use. While charcoal grills are known for giving food a rich, smoked taste like with barbecued meats, another secret of a delicious grilled meal is also the kind of marinade that you use to cook the food.

If you don’t have any idea on which kind of marinade to use, many are readily available online that you can just follow or you can buy ready-made marinades from the supermarket. Try to ask your friends who are into cooking which kinds of marinade they can recommend and how long the food should be kept marinating so that it’ll have a richer flavor.

Healthy eating definitely is a cinch with the help of charcoal grills however, don’t just limit your diet to everything grilled. Mix up your grilled fare with fresh veggies, baked potatoes, a nice salad, basically things that are equally healthy so you won’t end up ruining your diet.

So you see, it really is not that hard to get into the healthy habit of eating foods that are fresh, not cooked in grease, and are basically good for you. All you really need is to have one of those charcoal grills along with an imaginative attitude towards cooking and you will easily come up with all sorts of interesting grilled dishes that are perfect for your everyday meals.

Unlike conventional grills, this grilling machine is very compact, in fact you can just easily put it on your kitchen countertop or in one of your drawers so that it’ll be easier to find. As this is also an electric grill, you need not worry about getting the fire just right or how to make the meats cook evenly.

With the George Foreman Grill, all you really need to do is just place the meat cuts onto the Teflon-coated grill, put down the cover and wait for it to start its grilling magic. Of course you also shouldn’t forget to place the little white dish where all the fat from the food you are grilling will trickle down to. This explains the slanted design of the grill’s surface because the whole point of this grilling machine is to squeeze out the fat from whatever meat you want to grill in it.

This newer model was also endorsed by the popular boxer and proved to be equally successful as more and more people are trying to get into eating more healthily.

If you have a penchant for grilled food then it may just follow that you already have an outdoor grill for your home. Aside from being a great way to cook food, grills are also a fun way to attraction during dinner parties wherein everyone are practically salivating over what’s cooking at the grilling station.

Given that you pretty much rely on your grill as an important part of your culinary equipment, there are some important reminders that you need to remember in order to ensure that your grill will last you a good long while. Start by learning how to properly clean your outdoor grill. After each grilling session, make sure to wipe off any excess food or any burnt residue from the grill so that you won’t have to worry about those sticking to the next batch of food that you are going to grill.

But aside from knowing how to properly clean your grill, you should also get a good grill cover to protect your grill from harmful elements. Whether you use your outdoor grill daily or only a few times throughout the season, having the proper cover will prevent your grill from getting water damage which can lead to rust as well as blocking the sun from fading your grill paint.

With so many different sorts of grills available today, you must be able to choose the right type of grill cover that will best suit the grill you have at home. As far as availability goes, finding a cover is definitely something that is not hard to find. In fact, you can even go online and you’d immediately find various types of grill covers for you to choose from. As for price points, grill covers are usually very affordable, depending on the kind of material that was used for it as well as its size.

From small grills to really big ones with wheels, you should be able to find a grill cover that fits your grill. However, when it comes to shopping for grill covers, do not ever scrimp on the quality of the cover. Pick a cover that fits your grill, will be weather resistant and that is made of heavier material as you don’t want your cover to blow off! Though it may cost a little more to get one that is good quality, you will end up with a grill cover that will give you a long term return on your investment. Finding a cover is as easy as perusing your favorite online home store.
